Exploring Hadrian's Wall
|
|
Dari Blackburn kami masuk kembali ke M6. The second time driving on this part of England. Pertama kali ketika bercuti bertemu Idlan di Lancaster bulan December tahun lepas. Melalui Preston, Lancaster, Penrith.
Sepanjang perjalanan kami asyik main teka "Is that the wall?" "No lah, itu dinding pemisah ladanglah" "Haaa..tu dia" "Eh, mana wallnya sebenarnya?"
Hadrian's Wall is a monument built by the Romans in Britain. The Wall was built by order of the Emperor Hadrian, probably given during his visit to Britain in AD 122. There are also many forts, museums, temples and other remains. When it was built in stone, the Wall was some 73 miles long and 5 metres high. It was one of the Roman Empire's greatest feats of engineering. Today, the best remaining sections of the Wall in Northumberland are only 1 metre high but they are still very impressive.
First we stopped The Roman Army Museum. Then singgah di Northumberland National Park Center at Once Brewed.
Next the Carrawburgh: Temple of Mithras. Last sekali berhenti di Chesters Forts
Sepanjang perjalanan kami main teka lagu.

For 2 days kami sewa kereta harga 79.99 pound. Dapat Ford Fiesta warna hitam.

Cuti2 Austria - Salzburhg ~ The Sound of Music Tour
|
|
The hills are alive.. with the sound of music....
Our tour guide is a very lovely girl named Sonja. Very cheerful dan sangat kelakar. Lots of behind the scene stories. Like how the first children is not Liesl, but a boy. They actually used 3 palaces to use for the house when they found out that the original house is not suitable for filming.
Lets start at the very beginning...
Mula-mula dia bawak round all the film locations at the outskirt of Salzburg. Not all of the palaces boleh dimasuki. Most of them are now private properties.
In the movie, the von Trapps escaped over this mountains to Switzerland. But Switzerland was--and remains--a good 100 miles to the west of Salzburg. This mountain is actually the border to Germany. Angah mentioned "Macam gambar gunung kat Kedah aje!" hehehe in fact ha ah nampak macam gambar orang tengah bersawah. Orang-orang tu tengah berblueberry picking rasanya.
Anif castle can be spotted in the beginning of the film, during the aerial view of the Salzburg. It is very beautiful, surrounded by a lake. Malangnya kami tak dapat pergi dekat sebab it is now private property. Dapat tengok from celah-celah pokok tinggi.
"I have confidence in me"
The baroque Frohnburg Castle was built in the 17th century as a country house for the prince archbishops. Its facade, courtyard and front gate were used for the Trapp Villa in the film. Another privately owned property now. Majority of the houses in Austria are yellow orangish in color. A mystery that would be solved only on the train ride to Vienna.
Maria arrived here, after dancing along the Hellbrunn Alley with her guitar and singing I have confidence in me, to meet the von Trapps for the first time. At the end of the alley of trees, the children climb in their 叢lay-clothes・ customized from curtains. The baron tore the flag down from above the castle's doorway when they returned form their honeymoon and heard about the German occupation of Austria. They pushed their car noiselessly out of the castle's gate when they tried to escape.
"I am sixteen going on Seventeen"
This is part of the Hellbrunn Palace which we'll visit again tomorrow. One of the main sites from the film is the glass gazebo, setting for various love scenes, like "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" and "Something Good". After a complete renovation, it was reconstructed in the park of Hellbrunn palace. This is not the original setting, which was the garden of Leopoldskron Castle.
The gazebo is locked now because before this when it was opened ada seorang anak dara Austria berangan nak jadi Liesl and she was dancing and hopping on the benches, "pelepuk* jatuh dan patah kaki or something. Terus ditutupnya the gazebo. *sigh* kalau tak teringin gak cik kieli nak jadi sixteen going on seventeen.
Leopoldskron Castle was one of the most important locations for the film. The rear view was used for the Trap Family home. The family drank lemonade with the baroness on the terrace. Maria and the baron dance on the balcony during the ball scene, and the children fell into the adjacent lake. It was owned for a while by Max Reinhart (a co-founder of the real Salzburg Summer Festival, incarnated as Uncle Max in the film).
Habis area-area town, the bus took us to the mountain and lake region of the Salzkammergut, Sonja pushed the sound of music cassette into the machine and pointed out the Unterberg, where Julie Andrews turned circle in her dirndl and sang her heart out. The journey was quite far, the scenery is really breathtaking. Tapi malangnya.. malangnya? hehehe. Dengan air-cond, dengan pemandangan nyaman di luar, dengan alunan lagu kegemaran, dengan badan yang keletihan, even no. 1 sound of music fan pun tak larat nak tahan mata yang kuyu ini. Kami berempat nyenyak tidur, sedar-sedar dah nak sampai area Fuschl.
Sonja introduced the tobagon(?). Tak tahu macamana nak explain but it's like the fernecular, ada satu kabel will take us to the top of the hill, then turun sendiri. Dapat tengok pemandangan kawasan lake district. But we were sitting on a plaque macam sampan kecil dan leper.
Dalam cerita tu Maria was dancing around and she would raced back to the abbey bila dengar bunyi bell. Hehehe.. sungguh tak logik sebab the lake district punyalah berbatu-batu jauhnya.
We also stopped at St. Gilgen, another popular lake of the Salzkammergut, the Wolfgangsee. Memang pemandangannya amat cantik.
On the way balik kami ikut jalan lain, singgah di Mondsee, a small town. Sungguh comel town ni. Cantik cute that reminded me of those small houses in Disneyland.
The wedding scene in the movie was filmed here, Maria, led by Liesl, walked down the aisle to meet the baron in front of the main altar. In real life the wedding took place in the abbey back in Salzburg but since the abbey tak benarkan filming inside the abbey plus the place was small, they filmed the scene in Mondsee church.
"How do you solve a problem like Maria?"
The red roof is the nonnberg abbey. The sound of Music scenes shot here include the opening part where nuns go to mass and Maria returns too late. The performance for the song "Maria" was staged in the courtyard of the abbey. The children came to the abbey's gate to ask Maria to return to their home. The escape scene, with the cars parked outside the Abbey gate, was also shot in the original spot.
"Do-Re-Me"
After 4 hours, we arrived back in Mirabell Garden. In the film, Maria and the children danced around the Fountain singing "Do-Re-Mi". The Pegasus fountain next to the 17th century palace can also be spotted in the movie. The stairs leading up to the rose hill were part of the choreography as well.
It was really fun to actually see those places in real life.

With kak Eda, Ida & Amal. Plannya hendak bershopping di Bicester. Petang kami hendak meround-round di Shakespeare County di Stradford-Upon-Avon. Balik bermalam di Sheffield dan pagi-pagi esoknya pergi dulu car boot, then ke Stoke-On-Trent for another round of shopping.
But we had to forego Stoke-on-Trent because we spent quite some time in Sheffield jumpa member2 lama. Sorry kak Eda, tak dapat shopping your Wedgewood & Royal Albert.
